HOT CASE 1 – UNETHICAL ETHICS
AUSTRALIAN PSYCHOLOGISTS ENGAGED IN PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE
Last year the American Psychological Association was internationally condemned for supporting torture by its government. This year the Australian Psychological Society is intimately involved in psychological abuse by a body answerable to the Western Australian Government. Several members of the Australian public, one of whom was once a psychologist, are being traumatized in response to an ill-informed sub judice statement made by the President of the Australian Psychological Society. The abuse is being aided and abetted by key members of that Society who appear to have a vested interest in protecting their erring President. It remains to be seen whether the wider community believes that psychologists who are involved in the creation or reactivation of mental illness should be supported for their professional loyalty or condemned for their inhumanity.
